Manuscript must be complete at time of submission.
SUBMISSION PROCEDURES:
All proposed manuscript submissions must be preceded by a query letter which
includes a description or brief synopsis.
Send this letter to the address at the bottom and include a SASE for our reply.
Do not send a query letter if the manuscript is incomplete, has not been edited, or if
your query letter is full of errors.
Due to large amounts of spam we no longer accept email queries. E-mails that are
not expected are immediately deleted and are not read.
If we are interested in reviewing a manuscript for publication, we would require the
following:
MYSTERY, SCI-FI
Synopsis of 2 - 4 pages double spaced (a concise, complete description of the story
including the ENDING)
First 50 pages (2 or 3 chapters) of manuscript double spaced
CHILDREN"S
Send the entire manuscript double spaced continuous
Do NOT put only two sentences to a page or divide the story into pages
No synopsis
IF we request these materials you may send a paper copy by regular mail (see
below). PLEASE KNOW WE DO NOT RETURN PAPER COPIES UNLESS YOU
PROVIDE POSTAGE.
The submission processing time may vary up to or exceeding 3 months. We do not
acknowledge receipt of query letters or manuscripts and we don't reply to e-mails
asking about status of a submission UNLESS we have contacted you for possible
publication. If you have not heard from us, it means your letter, synopsis, or chapters
are in our pile to be looked at. We appreciate not have to spend precious time
answering e-mails such as "I sent a query for my novel, did you get it?" You will
receive a reply, but in some cases it may be 6 months or more. Keep in mind we are
a small publisher..Feel free to send multiple submissions to multiple publishers. We
do not require an exclusive submission.
After initial review, if we feel the book has potential, we may ask for the full
manuscript (does not apply to Children's books).
Tolling Bell Books is not able to pay large advances. Accepted authors receive a
standard royalty contract. Accepted works are published 9 - 12 months after
acceptance.
