Poetry
I enjoy writing poetry, but I never
said I was any good at it!

None of my poems are published (then
again I never really tried either!)
Candlelight

The candle burns,
A mesmerizing fire,
Holding power over me.
Within the licking flames,
There were things that I could see.

I believed the fire to have a magical sort of strength,
That it would not go out,
But I was too young to realize,
The weakness to forces from without.

I gave the same magical strength to you,
I saw you like that fire, burning forever, too.

Now I know you as a candle, just burnt out, no light,
And I, I have no powers to help it re-ignite.
All that's left behind are billows of smoke,
Themselves a misleading sight.

The wisps look strong enough to touch.
I grasp and try to feel,
But the smoke moves away in waves.
The illusion is not real.

Hold them, clutch them in my clasp,
Frantically I try, they are not within my grasp.

The more I try to pull it back, to try to make you stay,
The faster and faster it seems you slip away.

The more the smoke dissipates,
The harder it is to see,
The image in my mind of what you used to be.

A candle glowing, burning, glowing,
A radiance of light.
How long it burns, how long it glows,
Is the length of just one life.
Love At First Sight

There you were,
Across a not so crowded room,
Not so tall and dark,
But handsome just the same.

There we danced,
Across a not so crowded floor,
Not a slow love song,
But romantic just the same.

We'd just met,
But we both knew it,
It was God's way,
He put us both together
there on that same day.
Not a coincidence,
But providence, fate, I'm convinced.
My heart's been yours ever since.

Now here we are,
Across not so many years.
My life's been blessed to have you in it,
And I will never be the same.
More to come soon....
